An unusually dressed figure gets out of...

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, … they marvelled. And they realised that they had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13

An unusually dressed figure gets out of a car: a punk. I hand the man decorated with chains, studs and medals a Christian flyer. The text consists of only 16 lines and ends with the words: “My name is time; I am always moving forward towards the end, and I will take you with me into eternity. God says: ‘Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation’ (2 Corinthians 6:2).” He accepts it wordlessly and pockets it.

Weeks pass. A car pulls into the parking lot. A young man gets out. He greets me in a friendly manner. “Don’t you recognise me any more? You gave me a flyer here at this spot many weeks ago.” Now it dawns on me: it’s the punk. How he has changed! “What happened to you?” I blurt out. Then he goes to the car, gets the flyer and points to it: “This changed me. I’m going to church now and I want to follow Jesus.” An inward change had taken place in him, and an outward change had occurred in his appearance. God alone can change people through His Word and His Spirit. And a change that comes from God always goes from the inside out. Jesus Christ said, “You must be born again.” This work on the inner man is wrought by the Holy Spirit. It is as mysterious as the action of the wind, which is known only by its effects (John 3:7–8). But then comes the moment when the divine work becomes witnessed and visible to the outside world.

So it was here.

I work, and who will reverse it?

Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it?

Isaiah 43:13,19

Today’s reading: Daniel 11:10-28 · Acts 4:13-22

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More

Thoughts on the Epistle to the Romans (10)
A spiritual treasure had been entrusted to the apostle Paul that he wished to share with the Christians in Rome. It did not come from his own abilities or knowledge. What he wished to impart to them he had himself received...More
