Four petitions

Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; shepherd them also, and bear them up forever.
Psalm 28:9

Four petitions
In today’s verse, the psalmist makes four petitions to God, which He also answers in the lives of believers today:

1. The Lord saves us. Many dangers lurk on the path of following him. But the Son of God can help us and protect us. The assurance that Paul possessed also applies to us, “The Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom” (2 Timothy 4:18).
2. The Lord blesses us. In Ephesians 1:3 we read, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” This blessing includes many things: we are beloved children of God, we know the thoughts of the Father, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, etc.
3. The Lord feeds us. Matthew 4:4 says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” So when we read the Bible we receive spiritual food from the Lord Jesus that strengthens our faith. Even when the Word is preached, He shares with us what the new life needs.
4. The Lord carries us. What He was for Israel in the wilderness, He also wants to be for us, “The Lord your God carried you, as a man carries his son, in all the way that you went until you came to this place” (Deuteronomy 1:31). He carries us through life until we reach our heavenly destination.

Today’s reading: Job 1:1-12 · Acts 5:1-11

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
