The Parable of the Good Samaritan (4)

But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion.
Luke 10:33

The Parable of the Good Samaritan (4)
Jesus Christ answered the pointed question of a lawyer “Who is my neighbour?” with a parable: A traveller is robbed on the way from Jerusalem to Jericho and left half dead on the roadside. Then two spiritual dignitaries pass by the spot one after the other, but they don’t render any help, rather leaving the seriously injured man lying there without any concern for his well-being. Are they perhaps afraid of defiling themselves by touching a dead person?

But now a third person approaches – a Samaritan. He has “compassion” when he sees the seriously injured man. Doesn’t the Lord Jesus paint an impressive picture here of Himself, the “Son of Man”, who came to “seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10)?

Jesus Christ not only sees our personal needs, but He is also moved within, affected to the core. Perhaps you don’t know anyone who understands your personal situation. Then you can be sure that the Lord Jesus sees you, understands you, and feels with you. Why is this so? First, it is because Jesus, as the Son of God, is omniscient and at the same time “very compassionate and merciful” (James 5:11); and second, because He became a true man, “in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). This means that Jesus can understand us from His own experience as a human being; He knows the challenges that life here on earth pose to us. But there is one difference: He Himself was sinless.

How important it is for a “Samaritan” to understand and sympathise with a person’s inner needs! And this is always the case with the Lord Jesus.

. He learned that God can only use subjection of Himself, weakness in self, and dependence upon Him only.
However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
