Thoughts on the Gospel of John (211)

And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace to you! Then He said to Thomas, Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing. And Thomas answered and said to Him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.
John 20:26–29

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (211)
“Doubting Thomas”, as he is often called, rejected the testimony of his fellow disciples with the words: “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails and put my finger into the print of the nails ...”. He may well want to believe that Jesus is risen, but he cannot overcome his own doubts.

Jesus Christ is a kind Lord! A week later He comes into the midst of the disciples again. This time Thomas doesn’t miss the opportunity to be there. With His greeting, the Son of God shows Himself again as the source of peace. Without hesitation, He takes up the words of Thomas, which He had heard just as the disciples had. “All things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13).

Thomas is overwhelmed. His doubts dissipate like mist in the sun. Obviously, he has never perceived the majesty of Jesus so consciously as at this moment. Therefore he says, “My Lord and my God!” With this he bows down in his heart and acknowledges what many people doubt: that Jesus has supreme authority and is God Himself.

An individual’s personal happiness lies in the word “my”. And this is what we desire for every reader – to be able to say to Jesus: “My Lord and my God!”

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
