The call of our Lord

You follow Me.
John 21:22

The call of our Lord
When we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and accepted Him as our personal Saviour, He simultaneously called us to follow Him. To be His disciple, no maturity or probation is required. No, we are capable of following Him immediately after our conversion.

However, the questions arise: Do we respond to the call of our Saviour with our lives? Are we willing to surrender the leadership of our lives to Him and stand on His side? It may be that we have been saved for a while but have hesitated to follow this call of the Lord Jesus. Why, actually?

Who is it that calls us to follow? It is our Saviour who loved us and gave Himself for us unto death. He is also our Lord, having a claim on our lives because He purchased us for Himself through His blood. The better we know the Lord Jesus Christ and the higher we value Him, the easier it is for us to follow Him with all our hearts.

What exactly does it mean to follow Him? At the beginning it’s the conscious decision to go after the Lord Jesus. We surrender the leadership of our lives to Him and are willing to follow Him every day. But being a disciple of the Lord Jesus also means learning from Him and imitating Him. We can only do this by observing how He behaved as we read about Him in the Gospels.

Today’s reading: Exodus 5:1-14 · Luke 2:1-7

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
