A breathtaking tower
A millionaire summons a capable architect and says, “You must design a tower with a diameter of 4 metres for me.” The architect nods obligingly. The millionaire continues, “This tower shall have stairs and corridors, water pipes, and elevators installed. The walls must be only half a metre thick, and the height of the tower shall be 1,500 meters. Furthermore, the tower must be able to bend in all directions and house a chemical factory.” – The architect doesn’t even hear the last words as he has already left the room shaking his head.

Is a tower with these proportions and functions pure utopia? No, because all this fundamentally applies to plant stems like the rye stem! As ordinary as the rye stems of a field may appear to us, they are one of the numerous wonders of the great Creator God.

Engineers have been inspired by the special properties of stems to develop the so-called Technical Plant Stem. This is a tube spun from threads. The threads are soaked with synthetic resin during the manufacturing process, which solidifies like a glue. This makes the stem firm and stable, creating an extremely lightweight tube that is stable and does not sway very far. Of course, it is still a long way from being as stable as a real plant stem!

The size and wisdom of God are truly amazing:

“The everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” (Isaiah 40:28)
