The hitch-hiker

Who among you will give ear to this? Who will listen and hear for the time to come?
Isaiah 42:23

The hitch-hiker
An incident from several years ago clearly illustrates that God pursues and addresses individuals. He has encounters with them so they might have a relationship with Him.

A Christian picks up a hitch-hiker on the way to the train station. During the five-minute ride, he gathers the courage to address the hitch-hiker on the central theme of life: “Do you believe in God?”

The hitch-hiker’s response indicates to the questioner that he has touched a raw nerve. However, it is not a response of rejection, as from someone who immediately becomes “allergic” when approached about God. No, quite the opposite is true.

“Just a while ago, I received this New Testament,” explains the hitchhiker to the astonished driver. “I silently prayed, ‘God, if You really exist, make sure I reach the train station on time.’ Now, not only have I reached the train early, but I’ve also been spoken to about God.”

Similar moments occur in everyone’s life. They are moments when we feel God speaking to our hearts. Then, we face a decision: Do we want to listen to Him and engage with Him? Are we ready to heed God’s call to repentance and believe in His Son, Jesus Christ? Or do we prefer to maintain our own course in life?

Today’s reading: Exodus 27:9-21 · Luke 11:1-13

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
