God’s call to repentance

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.
Isaiah 55:7

God’s call to repentance
When we turn into the wrong street at an intersection, we soon hear the voice from the GPS saying, “Please make a U-turn!” If we don’t heed this instruction, the GPS searches for a new route to reach the predetermined destination. It persists in seeking to lead us to our destination.

In the same way, God is concerned about bringing us to Himself. His goal is to reconcile us with Himself. Therefore, He calls us to repentance and a change of direction. We must come to the realisation that we are on the wrong path. As long as we live without God, things will go downhill for us. We are on the road that leads to destruction.

Yet God doesn’t want us to be lost forever. He calls out to each of us: “Return to Me, for I have redeemed you” (Isaiah 44:22). Yes, God has indeed created the conditions for our repentance: His goodness, which leads us to repentance, caused Him to give His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross so that through personal faith in Him, we can be saved from divine judgment and enter into a harmonious relationship with God.

What God wants to achieve with us never changes: He wants to reconcile us with Himself and accept us as His beloved children. However, there is only one way to this goal: He demands our repentance and the confession of our sins. This path leads through the Lord Jesus Christ. Whoever believes in Him will be saved and is able to come to God.

Today’s reading: Exodus 33:1-11 · Luke 14:1-11
