Three crosses

They crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the centre.
John 19:18

Three crosses
About 2,000 years ago, outside the city of Jerusalem stood three crosses. The middle cross carried the Lord Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world. He suffered there for the sins of others and gave His life as a ransom for lost mankind. On the third day after His crucifixion, He rose from the dead and then ascended into heaven forty days later.

On one side of the Saviour hung a criminal who, in those moments, recognised his guilt before God. He knew he had to die because he had sinned. Yet at the same time, he realised that the one crucified in the middle had done nothing wrong. So he turned to the Lord in faith and found forgiveness of sins just before his death. He will rise to life one day to be with his Saviour in heaven forever.

On the other side hung another man who was also crucified for his crime. Yet he did not seize the last opportunity for repentance. Instead of turning to the man in the middle with his guilt, he mocked Him. Thus, he died unreconciled with God. He will be raised for judgment. Because of his sins, he will be condemned to eternal punishment.

What happened outside Jerusalem then still speaks to us today. The Lord Jesus offers us eternal salvation because He died for us too. Are we ready to acknowledge our guilt before God and turn to the Saviour in faith?

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 15:1-21 · Luke 22:66-71

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
