Christ has conquered!

And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead.
Matthew 28:7

Christ has conquered!
During the Battle of Waterloo, the English used a system of flag signals to inform themselves about the progress of the fight. One signal station was located on the tower of Winchester Cathedral.

Towards evening, the flags signalled, “Wellington defeated!” At that moment, an approaching mist obscured the view of the tower. The news of the supposed catastrophe spread rapidly through the city. Many people fell into despair.

Suddenly, the mist cleared. Then the rest of the message became visible. The complete message read, “Wellington defeated the enemy!” Instantly, mourning turned into celebration.

The disciples of the Lord Jesus experienced something similar. His death on the cross appeared to them as a defeat. Their hope for a peaceful reign under His rule was shattered. This disappointment settled over their hearts like a fog.

But then they heard the message: Christ is risen! At first, they could hardly believe it. To dispel their doubts, He Himself came to them. “The disciples were glad when they saw the Lord” (John 20:20).

With His death and resurrection, the Lord Jesus Christ achieved a victory over sin, death and the devil. He gladly allows anyone who believes in Him to share in it.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 17:12-27 · Luke 23:26-38
