The eyes of God

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy.

Psalm 33:18

The eyes of God

A Christian was seriously ill and was scheduled for surgery. On the day before his hospital admission, a friend visited him and asked, “How are you? Aren’t you a bit afraid?”

“Yes,” said the sick person, “I felt really heavy-hearted. But a fellow believer pointed me to the Lord and said, ‘Just look to the Lord Jesus, and it will be easier!’ That’s what I’m doing now and I am completely calm.”

Then his friend replied, “I know something even better!” – “Even better? Impossible! What could be better than looking to the Lord?”

“Look,” the visitor replied, “if you receive anaesthesia before the operation tomorrow, you will fall asleep. Can you still look to the Lord Jesus then?” – “No, I didn’t think about that!” the sick person responded, taken aback.

“Well, if you’re unconscious tomorrow and undergoing surgery, Psalm 34:15 will still be true: ‘The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous.’” – “Oh,” exclaimed the sick Christian, “that is truly even better!”

How encouraging it is for us that God’s eyes are always on us! He watches over us and protects us. He never sleeps but is always there for us. In today’s verse, it says that the Lord looks upon those who fear Him. This encourages us to approach Him with respect and to live in awe of Him.

Today’s reading: Jeremiah 39:1-18 · Romans 9:1-13

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
