Psalm 144:11

Rescue
The flight student now knew almost all the rules and secrets of aviation. Only one challenging lesson remained: when the aircraft enters a spin, the pilot has to pull it out of the “vortex” to prevent it from ending up in a spiral descent. First, the flight instructor explained the procedure. Then it was put into practice. At an altitude of 4,000 metres, the instructor brought the aircraft into the infamous spin with a few manoeuvres. The aspiring pilot attempted his skills, but in practice it was much more difficult than in theory. The plane approached the ground at a frightening speed, and he couldn’t stop the descent. Then a voice came over the intercom: “Let go; I’ll handle it.”

As long as we are not saved, our lives resemble such a descent. Inevitably, we are heading towards eternal ruin. Every effort to change this on our own is futile. But there is One who can save us: the Lord Jesus Christ! He gave His life on the cross so that we don’t have to be lost. If we believe in Him and entrust ourselves to Him, He pulls us back from destruction.

This requires us to cease our own rescue attempts and entrust our lives to Him. His redemptive work on the cross of Calvary is sufficient to save us from divine judgment.
