Sought and found

And he sought to see who Jesus was.
Luke 19:3

Sought and found
There was a crowd in Jericho as Jesus passed through the city. Everyone wanted to see Him and be near Him. But in a tree sat a man plagued by his sins. His heart cried out to the Saviour, yet his mouth remained silent.

Then something wonderful happened: Jesus, despite the crowd, stopped beneath the tree and looked up at Zacchaeus. He saw the desire for peace with God and for a fresh start in life in Zacchaeus’ heart. Therefore, the Lord declared, “Zacchaeus, make hast and come down, for today I must stay at your house” (Luke 19:5).

An exchange took place in the house. Zacchaeus confessed his wrongs and wanted to make amends. Above all, he believed in Christ, who had come to seek and save the lost. Thus, he found peace and began a new life with his Saviour.

After His death and resurrection the Lord Jesus ascended into heaven. There, He still has a deep interest in individual people. He sees everyone who sighs under the burden of sin and wants to be free. He knows the longing in the heart for a genuine, fulfilled life. Therefore, the Saviour makes the invitation, “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). Those who come to Him in confession of their sin and believe in Him receive forgiveness and eternal life.

“Seek Me and live.” (Amos 5:4)

Today’s reading: Leviticus 13:9-28 · Psalms 59:1-9

(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More
