Repentance – Conversion – Confession (1)

But when he came to himself, he said, how many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!
Luke 15:17

Repentance – Conversion – Confession (1)
How can a person be saved for eternity? The Bible’s answer is: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). This faith in Christ involves three points: repentance, conversion and confession. A story in the New Testament helps us understand these three terms. It is the story of the prodigal son: A young man asks his father to give him his share of the inheritance and then leaves home. After squandering all his wealth in a reckless life, he ends up penniless, hungry and lonely “among the pigs”.

But then the young man “came to himself”: he began to think differently, no longer lashing out but reflecting inwardly; he repented.

Before, he thought, “As far away from my father as possible, that will be the best life ever – a life of revelry and luxury.” But now he sits among the pigs and suddenly thinks differently about his father and himself. Before, his thought was, “I can’t stand being with my father anymore. What a restriction! I need freedom! I want to enjoy my life!” Now he thinks, “Actually, it wasn’t so bad with my father. Even my father’s hired servants have it better than I do here. It was a mistake to leave my father.”

Repentance, therefore, means that I change my mind; I think differently about God and about myself.

Today’s reading: Joshua 11:12-23 · 1 Corinthians 10:14-22

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
