Life’s ambition

And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.
Luke 12:19

Life’s ambition
In Luke 12, the Lord Jesus tells the story of a rich farmer who hoarded the produce of his fields only for himself. What he said to his soul reflects life’s ambition for many people: “Take your ease, eat, drink, and be merry.” They strive for peaceful hours to leisurely enjoy life. Moreover, nothing surpasses a fine meal with a good glass of wine for them. Fun and pleasure should also not be neglected.

However, in such a life there is no room for God, and the thought of eternity is completely ignored. This is very unwise because God said to the farmer, “Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?” Life on earth can end so quickly! What is there that remains when people have lived only for pleasure but neglected eternal salvation?

Therefore, God urges everyone to set their lives in order with Him and thus provide for eternity: “Look to Me and be saved” (Isaiah 45:22). His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, became man and sacrificed His life on the cross so that this turning to God would be possible. When we entrust ourselves to the Saviour and come to God with confession of our sins, He accepts us. He gives us eternal life, which begins here and continues in heaven.

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
