The man of sorrows

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself.
Hebrews 12:3

The man of sorrows
How much the Lord Jesus suffered in His life on earth at the hands of men!

The Creator came from heaven and, as a man, was the Firstborn or highest rank of all creation. Yet, there was no place for Him in the inn. Mary had to lay her newborn child in a manger.

Jesus Christ was the King of Israel. But shortly after His birth, He was rejected and persecuted. Herod sought to kill Him, so His parents had to flee with Him to Egypt.

He came from heavenly glory and was Himself pure and holy. How He must have suffered growing up in the infamous place of Nazareth! There, Jesus was surrounded daily by sinners who rejected God’s grace.

Later, He served people in love. But what was it like for His heart to see all the suffering and carry it internally? How many were sick or possessed by the devil! With compassion, He healed all who came to Him.

To a religious scribe who wanted to follow Him, the Lord explained: “The Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head” (Matthew 8:20). There was no resting place on earth for Him, the Creator and Sustainer of life.

How did He feel as the resistance against Him increased, and the hearts of many people closed to His message? Although He did only good, they eventually shouted,

“Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!” (John 19:15).

Today’s reading: Judges 9:26-57 · 2 Corinthians 9:1-15

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More
