Waste disposal

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes, we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5

Waste disposal
It’s Saturday morning. A line of cars is at the recycling centre. “It’s really crowded here this morning,” Peter complains to his son in the passenger seat. “We’ve been standing in line for a quarter of an hour already!”

In the next car, Sara says to her mother, “Look over there! The old man is only bringing a bucket of garbage!” – “Maybe he’s collected hazardous waste and wants to dispose of it,” the mother replies.

Tom has his boot full of timber. When he finally gets his turn, he’s told the container is full. He has to take the garbage back home and store it there ...

Everyone has garbage – in the house or in the garden. Some things can go in the rubbish bin; others need to be disposed of separately. But the worst “garbage” is in our hearts. What do we carry around with us? Lies, bad thoughts, envy, hatred and slander. How many actual sins burden us? And how much evil do we absorb into our hearts through our eyes? What do we do with this “garbage”? Where do we take it?

Let’s bring it to the Lord Jesus, the Son of God. He has already paid for its “disposal” – voluntarily with His own life! We can unload our entire burden of sin for free and without waiting at God’s feet and without Him sending us back home. He is everywhere and is always reachable for us!

Properly disposing of waste is important. But bringing our sins to the right place – that’s much more important! God is eager to forgive us and to give us a clear conscience.

Today’s reading: Judges 15:9-20 · 2 Corinthians 13:1-14
