False start!

And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
John 6:35

False start!
At halftime, it’s 0–2! The team goes into the break with a severe deficit. The final game started with a false start for them: first, they conceded an own goal, and then a dubious free kick led to another goal. So they enter the second half with a huge burden.

The chances of winning have diminished but are not yet lost. The players are called upon to give everything until the last minute. Will they be able to turn the tide?

Human life can also start with a false start. Difficult family circumstances, a failed education or wrong friendships, can make young life a sad, hopeless existence. The longing for true happiness remains, but with each disappointment, hope diminishes.

We cannot turn things around through our own efforts. But there is One who wants to lead us out of misery: Jesus, the Son of God! We are able to entrust our lives to Him. To help us, we need to trust Him unreservedly and confess to Him our personal guilt for our messed-up life. Then He forgives us our sins and gives us a new life.

This doesn’t solve all our problems. But we possess the glorious promise: the Lord Jesus is always with us and wants to give us true joy!

Today’s reading: 1 Chronicles 15:1-24 · Psalms 88:1-10
