The Holy One and the Just
In Acts 3, the Apostle Peter addresses his fellow countrymen, who have killed their Messiah, with serious words. He tries to reach their conscience so that they repent and turn to the Lord. In doing so, he presents the Lord Jesus to them using three titles.

He is the Holy One. At the announcement of His conception by the Holy Spirit and at His birth, He is already called by this name. The angel Gabriel explained to Mary, “Therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35). Jesus was born without sin and committed no sin in His entire life. Yes, He was incorruptible.

Christ is also the Righteous One. This title is closely related to the first. God is said to be the Righteous One in Exodus 9:27. In our verse, the Lord Jesus, who became man as the Son of God and lived here, is called the Righteous One. This means that His behaviour throughout His life always perfectly aligned with God, who is light and love.

Finally, the Apostle also speaks of the Prince of life, whom they killed. This is probably the highest title that Peter uses for the Lord in this speech. He is the source of all life, and He sustains everything in life.

This wonderful and glorious person provided the sacrifice that meets all of God’s requirements and has saved us. To Him be eternal praise and thanks for it!
