In Psalm 107:23–32, our lives are compared to...

For He commands and raises the stormy wind, which lifts up the waves of the sea.
Psalm 107:25

In Psalm 107:23–32, our lives are compared to a voyage on the sea. There, it happens that we get caught in a storm and the waves rise up high. This doesn’t take place by chance, because behind everything that befalls us stands our God.

“They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul melts because of trouble. They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits’ ends.” This is what happens to us in one of life’s storms. We no longer know what to do. At first, we try to handle the problem in our own strength and with our own wisdom. But we find out that we are completely overwhelmed.

“Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, so that its waves are still.” How good that we can cry out to God in distress. He hears our cry and comes to our aid. Often He doesn’t remove the problem immediately, but He gives us His peace so that we can find inner rest.

“Then they are glad because they are quiet; so He guides them to their desired haven.” At the end, when the Lord comes for our rapture to heaven, we will be led out of distress. Then the storm will be calm forever. We will reach the heavenly haven where eternal rest awaits us. What a joy that will be!

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
