The Gospel according to Matthew

This is Jesus, the King of the Jews
Matthew 27:37

The Gospel according to Matthew
The new Testament begins with the four gospels and their account of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He became Man and came down to us, sent by God. God dwelt among us human beings!
Now why should there be four accounts concerning Him? Because His Person and His life on earth were unique, of tremendous import and diverse. The gospels describe His Person and life from four different points of view. Taken together, they show what He truly was like when He lived on earth.
Matthew wrote the first gospel. He was a tax collector, who, before he started to follow Jesus, did not enjoy a good reputation. Afterwards, however, he had a message about Jesus to convey to his compatriots, the Jews. He was the King whom the prophets of Israel had promised. Moreover, the kingdom of heaven was at hand!
Through his book, Matthew wished primarily to inform and convince the Jews that Jesus Christ was the crucified and risen Lord, the Messiah. A mere minority of his nation had accepted Christ; so the Kingdom had not yet come in visible form. The prophets had already predicted all this concerning Christ; and Matthew constantly quoted Old Testament scriptures to prove it.
Nor did he conceal the fact that Christ would return and enter His kingdom in power and glory on earth. Then He will judge His enemies and establish a kingdom that will be characterised by righteousness and peace.
Today's reading: Ezekiel ch. 8
