Along the whole length of a Pacific beach in New Zealand, a line of swimmers linking hands suddenly found themselves surrounded by a school of dolphins that forced them to regroup by encircling them as they approached nearer and nearer. One of the swimmers then noticed a white whale in the distance coming directly towards them. For almost an hour, the dolphins formed a security ring round them to prevent the whale from getting too near until all the bathers reached firm ground.
