Finding the right pathway

Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Psalm 27:11

Finding the right pathway
As Christians we are called upon to make decisions time and time again. Frequently the Bible gives us no direct answer as to the matter in hand. It does, howevr, give the criteria by which we can examine our thoughts.
In today's verse from the Psalms, the writer, David, addresses his request to God: "Teach me your way, o LORD." Since God has a plan for our lives, we do not ask what is best from our point of view, but rather what the Lord has in mind for us. If we consciously put aside our own ideas, God can show us His pathway.
In Psalm 37:5, we read: "Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass." We can bring the uncertainties of our lives in prayer to the Lord Jesus. Then it is a matter of waiting for His answer in dependence on Him. That teaches us patience and endurance. We can only discover the Lord's leading by waiting on Him and not acting over-hastily.
God does not show us the entire pathway of our lives beforehand. But through His Word, He indicates the next step (cf. ). Let us then go the stretch of the way that He has revealed obediently. He will not fail to make the following steps clear in due time.
If we have taken a pathway of self-will, there is always a way back. Let us turn to the Lord in repentance and confession. His grace will restore us and lead us on to the right path.
Today's reading: Ezekiel ch. 31
