Praying is speaking with God.

And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
Luke 11:1

Praying is speaking with God. No special gift is required for this. Anyone can pray, whenever he wishes, even a small child. If someone is aware of his sins, he ought to confess them before God in an earnest prayer, in order to obtain forgiveness. And whoever is assured of the forgiveness of his sins will thank God sincerely for it.
Now why this request, "Lord, teach us to pray"? Because prayer is not just the expression of our wishes, not only a cry for help in times of need, or even simply praising and thanking; it is an attitude of awareness, expectation and listening for guidance from above. Prayer means active fellowship with God, who is forming our innermost being. Whoever prays and allows God to speak to him through His Word daily will come to know God's gracious leading more and more.
This was so with Jesus Christ, when He was on earth. His prayer life was not concealed from the disciples. That led to their request. How often had they heard the Lord praying: giving thanks before feeding the five thousand, at their meals, and before and after His ministry. But they were surely most impressed when He withdrew to speak to God alone. What close communion found its expression there! His whole life was prayer.
He took the place of a faithful, dependent servant of God, whose ear was awakened every morning (cf. Isaiah 50:4). Daily He entrusted Himself to God's leading and waited for His instructions. How we need to learn to pray! In the hectic of our time, quietness before God is so necessary. The Lord Jesus Christ teaches us through His own example. The Bible makes it clear.
Today's reading: Ezekiel ch. 39

(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More
