From darkness to light (2)

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
Matthew 24:4

From darkness to light (2)
Escaping from our mad society with all its constraints proved a further step in the miry clay, not suicide, but drugs. They make a temporal withdrawal possible, but lead to dependence and enslave one's soul. It is after the first horror trip with its paranoia at the latest that one is aware that there are powers at work who have it in you. The real world and my relationship with my relatives were no longer important for me. Just sail away and let things go - that was my life's motto! Step by step I got deeper into the miry clay.
There followed a nobler form of miry clay. When experience had taught me that drugs ruin one, we looked for other ways of becoming "high". An Indian guru promised us: start meditating and you will get inner peace and experience real happiness. When we heard: "Through meditation you can obtain God's agreement and become at one with the universe", we were on the religious track again. But in that way I did not find the living God.
Today I know that God never lost sight on me on my trip into the abyss. But I wanted nothing to do with Him.
Or do you think God was never interested in me? He warned me often enough: "Watch out where your way is leading you! Must you first sink like Peter?" God was only too interested in me. With hindsight, I can describe many situations when He addressed me personally.
(to be continued on Thursday)
Today's reading: Ezekiel ch. 43
