“A little security is sometimes worse than no security at all.”

The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
Proverbs 18:10

A magazine on economics published the success stories of immigrants who had made vast fortunes in the U.S.A. One of them had lost everything as a result of the war in Europe and had to start from the scratch in the U.S.A. He considered that an advantage over other young entrepreneurs who at that time had been able to take over their father's business. They did not need to build up their own existence; their security was already there. Being satisfied with that in many cases, they proceeded no further than their fathers. His comment on that was: "A little security is sometimes worse than no security at all."
From the material point of view, we might be satisfied with "a little security". However, if we apply this statement to our relationship with God and eternity, it hits the nail on the head.
What we regard as a "little security" in matters of eternity I perilous in the extreme. If, for example, our parents enjoyed a relationship with God, can we rest on that, as if we automatically inherited it? If they had us christened, or if we attend church now and again, if we sometimes seek pastoral counsel, do we think that gives us "a little security" for eternity?
That would be exceedingly deceptive. There is true security in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ and under the protection of His atoning blood. No-one should be satisfied with anything less! Christ, the Saviour, wants to grant the forgiveness of sins and eternal life to everyone who comes to Him. That is security with eternal validity.
Today's reading: Proverbs ch.3, vv.21-35

OF KEYS AND DOORS

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

APPLY THE KEY
