Atonement

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 2:1-2
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Leviticus 17:11

Atonement
The words "propitiation" or "atonement" and "atone for" occur frequently in biblical language. If we want to understand the message correctly, we must be clear about the meaning of such words. Their meaning in everyday language does not always correspond to their significance in their biblical context. Such knowledge can be gained only by studying the Bible thoroughly.
Propitiation and atonement mean that our holy and righteous God's rights have been fully met in respect of mankind and all that has been affected by sin. These words do not mean that guilt has been cleared or a debt has been paid. No human can do this, for "the wages of sin is death", eternal death, which leaves us no possibility of atonement.
The benefit from atonement is not for the sinner, but for God. Every sin is an offence against God, an affront to His holiness that requires restitution in full. Atonement brings this about. It is what His holiness demands.
Satisfying God in this way has nothing to do with revenge, as He proved by Himself giving His own Son, Jesus Christ, as the sacrifice to atone for our sins. He is the means of propitiation; as a Man here on earth, He gave His life in the cross for atonement. None other could have done so.
(Tomorrow we shall deal with forgiveness)
Today's reading: Proverbs 15:1-14

My times are in Your hand'Psalms 31:15 NKJV

The Psalm writes, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times are in your hand' (vv. 14-15 NKJV). As you walk with God you'll find that you spend more time waiting than you do receiving. And when you receive what you're waiting for, then...More

A Statement Of Purpose To Live By

Always give yourselves fully.' 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Next time you pass a McDonald's, think about this statement from the one of the founders: Ray Kroc. Press on! Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent....More
