Three attitudes regarding the gospel

And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matterHowbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
Acts 17:32 & 34

Three attitudes regarding the gospel
On the occasion of the funeral of a well-known, respected person in the village, numerous neighbours and friends came to express their sympathy to the family in mourning. All listened to the message read from the Bible. What effect did it have them individually?
As had happened previously at Athens, some mocked, others put off reflecting on it until later. Let us hope that many believed the gospel.
Could you be one of those who refuse it contemptuously, saying that God does not exist? The Bible calls such people fools (cf. ). Do you persist in refusing God's grace? Then you must face this question: "How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?" (Hebrews 2:3).
Do you say nonchalantly, "I'll see later." ? Are you sure that you will be granted another opportunity to come to Jesus? Perhaps you have already heard a gospel message that affected you, but you never truly turned to God. Then don't wait any longer!
The verse quoted above ends: "Somebelieved". Instead of being carried along on the wave of general opinion, they had the courage to go against the tide. They acknowledged their guilt before God and received the forgiveness of the only true Saviour, Jesus Christ. Their names are "written in heaven" (Luke 10:20).
Have you taken the same step?
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 6:10-21 & 7

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More

HAZARDING LIVES FOR MISSIONS

Within the space of a few years after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the gospel about Him had reached Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and all the great cities in Europe, Africa and Asia. The gospel had made great inroads into the aristocracy and among intellectuals, and had already changed the lives...More
