Following God’s instructions as a company

This Ezra went up from Babylon; and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which the LORD God of Israel had given: and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the LORD his God upon him. And there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinims, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.
Ezra 7:6

Following God's instructions as a company
After the 70 year exile in Babylon, King Cyrus gave the Jews permission to return to Jerusalem. Just over 40,000 availed themselves of the opportunity and undertook the journey under the leadership of Zerubbabel. Once there they rebuilt the temple. It was not the magnificent edifice that Solomon had built; nevertheless it was the house of God, where sacrifices could be brought according to the biblical instructions.
Some years later, a second, smaller group accompanied Ezra, the scribe to Jerusalem. They, too, wished to join in the Israelite service of God as laid down in their law.
Just as the Israelites had the temple of God in Jerusalem, there is also today a place where the Lord Jesus had promised His presence (cf. Matthew 18:20). We can gather to His Name by practising what is laid down in Holy Scripture concerning the church of God. This means that, like Ezra, we need to know the Bible well, acknowledging it was given by God. It contains all the necessary instructions for Christian gatherings.
Through our failure the visible testimony of the church of God has weakened considerably since the early days. Yet the divine promises are still valid, so long as we humbly obey biblical teaching. Even today, we experience the Lord's blessing when we gather to His Name to remember Him in His death. Hear His Word and pray to Him.
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 9

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
