This cry made by the Lord Jesus Christ...

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
Matthew 27:46

This cry made by the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary summons everyone to stand still for a moment and meditate. Thousands of years previously, David, the psalmist, had recorded the words that the dying Redeemer would utter on the cross (Psalm 22:1). God did not spare His own Son. "He had put him to grief" (Isaiah 53:10). Why did that have to happen?
Millions of believers know the answer. They will say: "It was for my sins. The Lord atoned for them on the cross, where He became the sacrifice for me, for I could bring nothing that could satisfy God. The Lord's cry gives me some idea of how terrible sin, indeed even my own, is in God's sight. He had to take my place in judgment. Now I can praise my Lord and Saviour and I shall always thank Him for His sacrificial death. Because He was forsaken by God on my behalf, I shall spend eternity in the glory of God in heaven."
Believers are aware of something even more profound in the Redeemer's cry, "Why?" It is the expression of Christ's purity and sinlessness; in Himself there was no cause for God to forsake Him. That gave Him the right to ask, "Why?"
All who imagine they can approach eternity without faith in the Saviour, Jesus Christ, should remember that God would never have allowed His Son to suffer as He did, if there had been another way of saving people from eternal condemnation.
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 22

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
