The veil of the temple was torn into two parts...

And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
Revelation 1:17-18

The veil of the temple was torn into two parts as a result of the crucifixion of the Lord Jesus. Loving, God-fearing people had laid the body of Jesus in a tomb newly hewn out of a rock. A heavy stone had been rolled in front of it to seal off the entrance. Then the Sabbath Day passed over this sad scene.
In the early hours of the following day, some women went to the tomb to anoint the body of Jesus for His burial. The sun was rising when they arrived. But what had happened? The tomb had been opened and His body was no longer there! A mighty miracle had taken place: Jesus had risen from the dead!
During the day one testimony followed another. First the angels told the news to those women. Then Jesus Himself appeared to Mary Magdalene. After that He revealed Himself to two disciples on the road to Emmaus and later to Simon Peter for a private conversation. Finally He appeared before the disciples who had gathered in a room behind closed doors with the words: "Peace be with you." He showed them His hands and His side with the wounds resulting from His crucifixion (cf. ).
The disciples, full of distrust and hesitation, were not convinced so easily, but then they recognised Him, the One whom they had mourned was indeed standing in their midst. He had told them of His forthcoming resurrection, but their hearts had been unaffected at the time.
Jesus rose from the dead. Do you truly believe it? And has that belief changed your life?
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 24
