Thomas was one of the twelve disciples who accompanied...

Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
John 11:16

Thomas was one of the twelve disciples who accompanied the Lord through the land of Israel. He is known as "doubting Thomas" because he was skeptical about the news of the resurrection. But what else does the Bible report of this disciple? When Jesus entered Judea, which was hostile towards Him and where His crucifixion awaited Him, Thomas revealed such deep love towards Christ that he was prepared to die with Him.
When the Lord informed disciples that He would return to His Father and eventually receive them in His Father's house in heaven, He added the words: "And where I go you know, and the way you know." Thomas then showed his interest in Jesus' statement and in the future with Him by asking, "Lord, we do not know where you are going, and how we can know the way?" His question brought forth the Lord's well known saying: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:2-6).
When the risen Lord appeared before the other disciples, Thomas was not present. How could he know whether He had truly risen again, or whether they had seen a phantom? He wanted proof: "Unless I see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into his side, I will not believe". Thomas was a thinker; he had, however, succumbed to the danger of ignoring testified facts. Yet when he encountered the risen One, all his doubts vanished. With his testimony, "My Lord and my God", Thomas gave further witness to the physical resurrection of Jesus (cf. ).
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 29 & 30:1-15

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Look For Teaching Moments

What do these stones mean?' Joshua 4:21 NIV

One of the most effective ways to teach is through teaching moments'. Jesus did that. When a fig tree didn't produce fruit, He cursed it and it immediately withered up. That got the disciples' attention (see Matthew 21:18-22). Then He explained that unless...More
