Thoughts on the book of Acts (189)

And Paul said, I would to God, that not only thou, but also all that hear me this day, were both almost, and altogether such as I am, except these bonds. And when he had thus spoken, the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them: And when they were gone aside, they talked between themselves, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds. Then said Agrippa unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.
Acts 26:29-32

Thoughts on the book of Acts (189)
King Agrippa had evaded and thus dismissed the apostle's appeal with His reply: "You almost persuade me to become a Christian." But Paul pursued the matter, wishing to win over the hearts of the King and the audience.
Here we have, amid all the pomp and splendour around, a poor prisoner wishing the king, the governor and prominent persons of the town his own condition, chains apart! Paul obviously wished them the same peace of mind that he possessed, the same heartfelt joy and assurance of one day being with Christ in glory.
Agrippa and Festus terminated the session abruptly. They now knew what Festus might write to Caesar. Paul was innocent. There was nothing punishable with which to charge him. Agrippa's opinion was that Paul should be released. But the governor could now no longer issue an order to set him free. The apostle had appealed to Caesar; so the case no longer lay in Festus' field of competence. Paul had to be taken to Rome.
(to be continued next Sunday)
Today's reading: 1 Samuel 30:16-31

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
