“We must not tie our ship to a single anchor, nor our life to a single hope.”

Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1 John 3:2

"We must not tie our ship to a single anchor, nor our life to a single hope." What is your opinion of this maxim? It actually comes from an eminent philosopher of ancient Greece.
Think about it!
In my own case, I should say: if it concerns God, then it is the very thing that I do! My whole life depends on a single hope. What is that hope? Today's verse from the Bible expresses it: after this life, I shall see Him who loved me and gave Himself for me, that is, Jesus Christ, my Saviour and Lord. I shall be with Him in the glory of heaven. That really makes my life worth living. I have a goal that makes the trials of the pilgrim pathway worthwhile. I have a hope that is not an illusion but a certain future.
What gives me this certainty? One Person alone: He who bore "the chastisement for my peace" on the cross of Calvary (Isaiah 53:5). There He, the just One who suffered for me, the unjust, was made sin to bring me to God (cf. 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:18). He is now in the glory of heaven with God as a Man, standing surety for my place with Him there.
This fact is indeed a sure "anchor of the soul" (Hebrews 6:19), to which I can firmly tie my whole life. Whether I go through death, or whether Jesus Christ comes to take me to Himself with all God's children, that is my life's goal. It is also its content and strength.
Today's reading: 2 Samuel 21

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
