S.O.S

But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Matthew 14:30-31; Acts 4:12

S.O.S
S.O.S is the signal transmitted by sailors in distress. The initial letters of this signal stand for: Save Our Souls! It is sent out when all hope of obtaining a rescue by one's own means has been lost. Survival then depends on the mercy of someone outside.
S.O.S distress signals go out in all sorts of situations in our world, but there are also spiritual S.O.S alarms. Everyone is pursuing a pathway that must end in death. By living without heeding God, mankind forgets all about eternal condemnation. No-one can escape this by his own efforts. For this reason, God waits to receive the S.O.S signal from anyone who recognises his need of help from outside, in other words, divine intervention.
When the apostle Peter began sinking in the waves of the Sea of Galilee, he cried out to Jesus, "Lord, save me!" And he was immediately within the reach of Jesus' outstretched hand, which pulled him to safety.
Similarly, Jesus still today comes to the aid of those who, deep down in despair, sadness or revolt, turn to Him to be forgiven, understood, loved and comforted.
He is the Saviour; there is no other.
Today's reading: Ecclesiastes 3
