Christ the Saviour (4)

Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
2 Timothy 4:17-18

Christ the Saviour (4)
All those who have put their faith in Christ are saved. They have received eternal salvation. There are, however, passages in the New Testament that speak of being saved at the present time and in the future. There are several reasons for this:
Christians are still living a world that is under Satan's hostile influence.
The fact that God's wrath will yet affect this earth still has to take place.
The believer's physical body still has no part in redemption and (cf. Romans 8:23).
Now these aspects do not affect the security of the Christian's full salvation in any way. The apostle Paul, for example, experienced the hostility of the world, but also deliverance through Christ, on many occasions. He knew for certain that the Lord would "deliver and preserve him for his heavenly kingdom."
God's wrath will come: there will be retribution for all the evil that has occurred on earth. But believers are assured that they are "saved from wrath" through Christ and will reach their heavenly goal (cf. Romans 5:9; 1 Thessalonians 1:10; 5:9).
Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, became Man, yet He is at the same time God the Son. Therefore, He "continues for ever and is able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through him" (Hebrews 7:24-25).
What peace and assurance that gives all who have entrusted their lives to Christ and can say, "He is my Saviour"!
Today's reading: Acts 5:29-42

MEAL OF REMEMBRANCE

The Holy Communion is a very significant meal. Unlike regular meals, it a meal of remembrance. When some people take this meal, they forget to heed the instruction in today's Bible reading where the Lord repeatedly said "this do in remembrance of Me". In other words, the meal reminds us of God's power of...More
