Ingratitude towards God is ascribed...

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18

Ingratitude towards God is ascribed exclusively to heathens in the Bible. According to 2 Timothy 3:2, it is a characteristic of the last days of Christendom in which we are living.
How can we counter this trend? Will certain forms of gratitude possibly help? Parents can, for example, insist on their children saying "Thank you" for kindness shown to them, and it is good when they do so. But that does not remove the root of the evil. People need a change of heart, a new birth. Only then will things take a fresh course - in God's direction, so that praise and thanksgiving become a heartfelt requirement.
It even happens that the children of God are hardly conscious of their great salvation and glorious position, while the proofs of God's goodness that we experience daily are easily overlooked. How do we react when we encounter difficult circumstances that certainly do not call for gratitude?
Today's verse encourages us never in any situation to forget to give thanks. Even in trials, there is always something for which we can thank God: our salvation our heavenly goal and the nearness of our sympathetic Lord on our pathway. If we contemplate what He has granted us and what He means to us, thanking Him will be easy. He has granted us and what He means to us, thanking Him will be easy. At the same time we shall receive strength for the situation we are in.
Learning gratitude is part of our spiritual growth. Let us take the Lord Jesus for an example. Whenever rejection by His people became particularly marked, He praised His Father and gave Him the glory (cf. Matthew 11:25-26).
Today's reading: Acts 8:24-40
