Thought on the book of Acts (198)

And after three months we departed in a ship of Alexandria, which had wintered in the isle, whose sign was Castor and Pollux. And landing at Syracuse, we tarried there three days. And from thence we fetched a compass, and came to Rhegium: and after one day the south wind blew, and we came the next day to Puteoli: Where we found brethren, and were desired to tarry with them seven days: and so we went toward Rome. And from thence, when the brethren heard of us, they came to meet us as far as Appii forum, and The three taverns: whom when Paul saw, he thanked God, and took courage. And when we came to Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard: but Paul was suffered to dwell by himself with a soldier that kept him.
Acts 28:11-16

Thought on the book of Acts (198)
The voyage could not proceed during the winter. It was not until three months later that the prisoners' transport continued on another ship. Taking advantage of different winds it went via Syracuse in Sicily to Rhegium (Reggio) at the southern tip of Italy, then on to Puteoli (Pozzuoli) by the Gulf of Naples. From there the prisoners took the footpath along the Via Appia to Rome.
First Paul and him companions enjoyed the hospitality of the believers in Puteoli, while on the way to Rome, Christians from the capital, some 40 miles away, came out to meet them.
For the apostle, the love and fellowship of the believers was a great encouragement for him. He again experienced the fact that Christians are not alone but belong to a worldwide fellowship of brothers and sisters. He thanked God and went on his way heartened.
In Rome, Paul was allowed to live privately, although guarded by soldiers.
(to be continued next Sunday)
Today's reading: Acts 10:1-23

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
