The door of the palace

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

John 10:9; 2 Peter 3:9

The door of the palace
A five-year-old girl was going to bed. Beforehand, the little one prayed and included a request for her grandfather, who did not believe in Christ: "Lord Jesus, please don't shut the door of your palace too quickly, so that my granddad can still go in."
Her prayer reminds us of an important fact: heaven's door is still open today. But that will not be so for ever. The door is open, because Jesus Christ died for sinners. And God's patience still keeps it open, for God's wish is for "all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4).
The young girl had understood that, and was worried about her grandfather. Maybe he did not sense that he was lost because of his sins and needed to be saved. Perhaps he was an upright man who enjoyed the respect of his neighbourhood. To humble oneself before God and admit one's own unworthiness is something we proud beings find difficult. Some people are even offended that they can contribute nothing to their eternal salvation.
Perhaps prayers are said regularly for you by your relatives, or a colleague from work, or one of your neighbours. One thing is true of you in any case: Jesus Christ died for you, and He is waiting for you to turn to Him.
Today's reading: Acts 21:18-40

Given modern trends and need for details, most institutions have various books in which records are kept and can be retrieved in years to come. Every...More
