We were travelling to Denmark...

If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
Ecclesiastes 11:3

We were travelling to Denmark. After a lengthy journey, we were almost at our destination. Now we had only to take the ferry from Puttgarden to Rodby, then we would be in Denmark. When we checked in, the lady at the counter said, "No, I'm sorry, I can't let you on the ship. You have only booked the return journey!" The travel agent had obviously made a mistake. What now?
Isn't this possible in another sense? You have a baptismal certificate from your church and think that will suffice to get you to heaven. But you would be relying on something that will let you down at the decisive moment. Baptism and church membership open the gate to heaven for nobody. What is needed is the realisation that we are sinners before God, then turn to Him and put our faith in Christ. That is why people preached "repentance towards God and faith towards our Lord Jesus Christ" (Acts 20:21).
On our journey, the problem was soon solved. An employee of the shipping company altered the data on our ticket, and off we went. With regard to eternity, however, we must remember that at death the decision has already been taken finally. The soul goes either to God and eternal joy or to the place of torment. No alteration is possible. "At the place where the tree falls, there it shall lie."
Only if we have found the answer to the problem of our sin and peace with God through Jesus Christ have we booked the right direction.
Today's reading: 1 Kings 12:20-33

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
