A young man once went out for a pleasurable evening.

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Isaiah 1:18

A young man once went out for a pleasurable evening. In the street, a passer-by handed him a piece of paper. He took it, and under the next lamppost read: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow." With a contemptuous smile, he screwed up the paper and threw it away.
The wind whirled the written message away, but the words remained impressed on his memory. He said to himself, "Those words aren't for me. I'm an unbeliever" But he could not shake off the message, though he resisted it. "I believe in neither the Bible nor in the God of the Bible, nor in life after death." But that inner voice told him: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they will be white as snow."
He wanted to silence that voice, refused to think about the words, but simply couldn't tear himself away from them. Then he reached a meeting place where the Word of God was being preached. The thought came to him spontaneously, "I could go in there and hear what they have to say."
There, the preacher read precisely the words that he already knew and that would not leave him in peace: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white." The young man thought, "This message really is meant for me!" His conscience has been pricked. He listened attentively, so as to hear how he could be cleansed from his sins and made "white". That same evening, he found faith and eternal salvation in Christ.
Today's reading: Proverbs 25:1-14
