This advice is as valid today as...

Do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
Luke 12:29-31

This advice is as valid today as it was, when Jesus Christ gave it. We can still regard eating and drinking as a symbol of our life style.

A newspaper once invited its readers to reply to the question: "What is the most important thing in your life?"

Many readers responded. One woman wrote: "Not letting things get you down; but keeping your sense of humour." Another answered. "Maintaining one's self-assurance." A townswoman stated: "In my life peace, health and good friends are vital. I can rely on my friends. They help to make life together much nicer." Finally we quote a father's words: "In my life my children and the wish to see them grow up and live in happiness and peace is most important."

All these answers are understandable. But did no-one think any further? Are the passing things of earth really everything? By no means! There is still God and His kingdom. Even if no-one mentioned it, our calendar insists on it.

The kingdom of God is a spiritual reality. To be able to enter it means true joy. But we need to seek after it. We needn't go without eating and drinking. But in Luke 12 the Lord clearly established that "life is more than food and the body more than clothing?" (v. 23).

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

As a bona fide member of the Kingdom of God, you must be a proof of His power to save. Matthew 1:21 says Jesus shall save His people from sin.

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Don't Lose Sight

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
