Redemption (2)

We ourselves groan, waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.
Romans 8:23

Redemption (2)
Redemption, as we considered it yesterday, refers to the believer's soul and is connected with the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1, 14 stated: "We have redemption, the forgiveness of sins". It describes the present state of the Christian.

God's Word also speaks of redemption, however, in a future sense. Believers are now waiting for the redemption of their bodies. Here, too, it is a case of liberation. We are at present still subject to much weakness, limitation and trouble. But one day that will come to an end. Just as for the forgiveness of sins, the work of Jesus Christ also avails for this form of redemption.

Believers have been "sealed for the day of redemption" by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4, 30). When Jesus Christ returns to take Christians to be with Himself in glory, their bodies will also experience the redeeming power of God. On that glorious occasion the bodies of deceased believers will be snatched from death.

God's children are waiting for the Lord Jesus Christ to come from heaven as the Saviour. They long for Him and also for the transformation of their earthly, transient body. It will then be like the glorious body that He has in heaven. Believers will be like Him (cf. Philippians 3, 20, 21; 1 John 3, 2). Then redemption will be complete. There will be no more grief or suffering, but eternal joy.

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
