Conversion – from lameness to mobility (6)

As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.
Colossians 2:6

Conversion - from lameness to mobility (6)
When the Word of God speaks of our walk, our conduct is meant. As unbelievers, people behave "according to the course of this world fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind" (‘Ephesians 2, 2.3). Those who have turned to Christ for salvation are henceforth identified with Him and called upon to "walk in newness of life" (Romans 6, 4). Formerly there was no ability to lead a life pleasing to God. The power of eternal life was lacking. Things change when Jesus Christ enters our life.

This was the experience of two men in particular during the Lord's life on earth. One, whose illness over 38 years had resulted in lameness, obeyed Christ's command to "rise up and walk" (John 5, 8). He was cured straightaway. The other, suffering from paralysis, was carried to where Jesus was teaching in a house filled to capacity with listeners. The only way he could get to the Saviour was through the roof. But his faith and that of his bearers was rewarded. He, too, "immediately rose up and departed to his own house glorifying God" (Luke 5, 25).

Christians' objective is to glorify God. Their behaviour is noticed by all around them, and they are judged accordingly. In Paul's epistles to churches he instructed the believers to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel, their calling, God and the Lord, often contrasting what might be expected of them with what previously characterized them and those without faith in Jesus Christ.
