Many people make a great effort...

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus.
Galatians 2:16

Many people make a great effort to please God. They have been told that one must exert oneself to get right with God. Peoples of ancient times, who were intellectually not so backward, knew that things were not as they should be between God and man. They endeavoured to become righteous by thinking and acting according to their own moral conceptions. Their way, however, can never appease the conscience. Can anyone possibly find God's approval in this way? The Bible says emphatically: No!

Our best efforts, like love of mankind, good works, generosity and outward piety are of no avail. If we examine our personal endeavours and then ask, "Has God now pronounced me free from sin and guilt? Have I now lasting peace with God?" we shall quickly be disappointed.

One of mankind's oldest questions is: "How can a man be righteous before God?" (Job 9, 2) How can a man be just before God?

It is now as topical as in Job's day, thousands of years ago.

For sincere seekers the Bible has the answer ready. God justifies all who believe on Jesus Christ and His work of redemption at the cross of Calvary (cf. Romans 3, 25.26). Jesus Christ is not merely a Man, He is also truly God, and He suffered the punishment on behalf of all who believe in Him.

Putting one's faith in Him is the solution for whoever sees no other way but to acknowledge his guilt and failure before God.

Today God is calling you (3)

I have prayed for you, that your faith will not fail.' Luke 22:32 NASB

God wants you to do His will, but you'll never reach the place of spiritual maturity in which you're free of Satan. You can overcome him, but you can't eliminate him. Look at Peter. He had only one gear: overdrive. He was always...More
