A temporal and an eternal universe

You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain. They will be changed, but you are the same. Christ with his own blood he entered the most holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.
Hebrews 1:10 - 12; 9:11.12

A temporal and an eternal universe
Scientific studies have endeavoured to prove the ageing of the universe. Many scholars, putting forward various hypotheses, envisage the destruction of the present order of the universe. Whatever their scientific competence, however, they base their opinion solely on human reasoning.

God, who called everything into being by His word, teaches us that "the heavens and the earth, which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men" (2 Peter 3, 7).

If our earth is merely a temporal element, there exists the non-temporal, eternal universe of God's presence, a universe that Jesus Christ revealed to through His incarnation:

Eternal life - "He who believes in the Son has everlasting life" (John 3, 36).

Eternal salvation - He (Christ) became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him" (Hebrews 5, 9).

Everlasting joy - "shall be theirs" (Isaiah 61, 7).

Eternal glory - to which "the God of all grace has called us" (1Peter 5, 10).

Those who refuse the gift of God "will go away into everlasting punishment" (Matthew 6, 46)

What a terrible prospect this is! Yet God's gracious gift is life eternal, which must be grasped here and now by faith.

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
