God’s preservation

The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; he shall preserve your soul. We do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but, we know that all things work together for good to those who love God.
Psalm 121:7; Romans 8:26.28

God's preservation
This morning, as usual, I asked God to keep me throughout the day. And I set off confidently. On my journey I slipped and broke my leg. Then I was in the emergency department of the hospital for hours. It was a bad breakage: an operation was necessary. As I waited, I had time to reflect. A quiet voice inside me whispered: "You asked God to keep you, and you have broken your leg. Yet it is written: `He shall preserve you from all evil.´Doesn't this verse apply to you today? Perhaps you didn't pray with enough faith this morning."

My room in the hospital was quiet, but within me there was tumult. Finally the verse from Romans impressed itself on my mind, and I became calm. The promise said that all things (even a broken leg!) work together for good.

Dear Christians, we can easily think that disagreeable occurrences are "evil". But if God permits a vexation or even an accident, let us not be troubled. Psalm 121 confirms that "the LORD shall preserve you from all evil", but the continuation is essential: "He shall preserve your soul." According to His faithful promise, God will keep us from all that would be bad for our soul. He acts in a way that, though we wrongly imagine it to be "evil", finally benefits our soul.

The story of Job is a striking example. God allowed him to be tested to the extreme, with a view to blessing him immensely. And Job was far from being a loser. (Read Job ch. 42).

Today's reading: Psalm 90

CONDESCEND!

After seeing their plight, hearing their cries and feeling their pains, God came down to rescue the Israelites from Egypt. Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More

EX-CHAMPION?

Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More
