Fact, not theory
The ninth chapter of John's gospel is really worth reading. The Lord Jesus Christ healed a man who had been born blind. When the latter was asked about the cure, he didn't attempt to explain it. He was not in a position to analyse the miracle, and that didn't matter to him. He knew the decisive fact, and that sufficed: "One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see." For him that was not theory or a dream. He had experienced it personally, and did so every day thereafter.

The leaders of the people were hostile towards Jesus. When the man who had been healed was ­interrogated, he testified calmly and assuredly what had happened. His attitude can be described as follows: You can say what you like. The whole world can try to convince me that my cure is impossible. But I would always answer: "I was blind, and now I can see."

He knew very well what it meant to be blind. Until then he had seen nothing of the creation and knew nothing of God in the Person of Jesus Christ. Now he could see the sun shining and his fellowmen. And he had seen Jesus, the Son of God with his own eyes. This fundamental change in his life was undeniable. It is, at the same time, an illustration of the change that takes place in a person who turns to God.

Christian faith is not mere theory that can be analysed objectively. It is an absolutely certain conviction based on facts, which changes our life visibly and permanently for the better for time and eternity.
