An inhabitant of Long Island on the north coast of...

The day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. Sudden destruction comes upon them.In you, o LORD, I put my trust. You are my rock and my fortress.
1 Thessalonians 5:2.3; Psalm 71:1.3

An inhabitant of Long Island on the north coast of the U.S.A. ordered a barometer from a mail order firm in September 1938. When it arrived, he was greatly disappointed: the hand persistently indicated "hurricane and tornado". The purchaser knocked on the glass, then shook the barometer vigorously. He waited for a time, but nothing happened: the hand pointed unwaveringly at "storm".

The indignant man wrote a letter of complaint to the firm and set out to post it. On his way his house was caught and destroyed in a hurricane in New England. The barometer's indication had been right; the man should have taken note of it.

What is forthcoming for the earth and us human beings is no less important. But God has given us a trustworthy "barometer": the Bible! It is of divine origin and absolutely reliable. The last book of the Bible, Revelation, gives us advance warning of a tremendous "storm" threatening all mankind. The reason for it is that people have set God aside. They live without troubling about their Creator and reject the Saviour whom He sent to them.

God warns us with extreme patience, because He loves us. He wants us to take refuge from the dreadful "storm" that will overtake all the earth's inhabitants in Jesus Christ (Revelation 3:10).

Let us take the Bible's warnings seriously! Jesus Christ, the Saviour, offers us refuge and protection. Whoever believes in Him is eternally secure.

Today's reading: Exodus 22:1-30 · Luke 9:1-9

NEW LIFE IN CHRIST

There is a nature that is of the Earth and there is a nature that is of Heaven. Since the fall of man, the earthly nature of man has become corrupted and therefore is greatly under the influence of the kingdom of Satan. Characteristic features of this nature are: wickedness, moral perversion - sodomy and all sorts of...More
