The missionary was walking along a narrow footpath...

The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23

The missionary was walking along a narrow footpath between fields, small plantations and woods. At a fork in the pathway he met a native. "Where are you going?" he was suddenly asked in an Indonesian language. In a friendly tone he replied, "Today is Sunday, a special day for us Christians. I am on my way to a Christian service with others.""Of course, I have often seen that building," the stranger said. "I have to pass it whenever I go to my plantation." - "And why haven't you ever looked inside?" - "To tell you the truth, I have felt drawn towards Christianity. But tell me, what reward will I get if I become a Christian?" The missionary had to conceal his surprise. Then he said, "More than enough for whoever accepts Jesus Christ as his Redeemer and Lord." - "Oh, then please tell me!" The Indonesian's face radiated with expectation.

"First, there is the forgiveness of sins, which cannot be weighed up with money. Secondly, the assurance of salvation already here on earth. Thirdly, a secure place in heaven, because your name will be entered in the book of life. Fourthly, peace with God and no further fear of spirits and dreams. And fifthly, you can unload all that troubles you by praying to Jesus."

They reached the meeting room. "Let's go in," said the missionary. "Oh, do excuse me. I have so much to do. Another time perhaps." The native was visibly disappointed. He had imagined the "reward" to be something different!

"You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might become rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
